Peru, IL - The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp will play in the 2022 Prospect League Playoffs. On Friday Night, the Pistol Shrimp defeated the Clinton Lumberkings 10-9 in 11 innings at Schweickert Stadium in Peru, IL to grab their 17th win of the second half and clinch a spot in the Wabash River Division Championship game on Sunday.
The Pistol Shrimp head into the final game of the regular season on Saturday in Lafayette with a 37-21 overall record and a 17-10 record in the second half. Both the overall and the second half record are the second-best in the Prospect League during 2022.
The Prospect League Playoffs open on Sunday as the Pistol Shrimp travel to Danville to face off against the Danville Dans at 4:30 PM at Danville Stadium. If the Pistol Shrimp defeat the Dans on Sunday they will play in another one-game playoff on Tuesday against the winner of the Ohio River Valley Division in the Eastern Conference Championship. The host team for that game is the one with the best overall record. The Prospect League Championship series is a 3-game playoff scheduled for Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday (if needed) next week.
The 2022 playoff appearance is the 2nd playoff appearance in the 3-year Prospect League history of the Pistol Shrimp. The Pistol Shrimp last appeared in the playoffs in 2019, falling in the West Division Championship 5-2 to the Cape Catfish.
